Moving On: Starting New Beginnings

Today I will probably pack a few more boxes. We are moving on. This house is sold to a handsome youthful energetic kitesurfer who will live out a long held dream of his side hustle, becoming a host in his own place. I am moving on to new pastures.

As I look at our cherished garden crowded with coconut, lime, banana, mango, papaya and passion fruit ( I could keep going, honestly the list is endless) I am remembering my Dad in law who passed away exactly a year ago. He planted it all. This lush heavenly garden was our Eden in the pandemic. The soothing sound of a breeze through swaying bamboo scattering leaves in the wind saying 'this too shall pass' Fat weighty papaya dripping with juice as they were pulled off the tree. A rich evidence of universal plenty. Constant. Reassuring.

Everyone called him Bolhome. Old man. A term of affection in Mauritian culture. Five kids. One died in early childhood. His disappointment at missing out on education planted a burning desire, he saw to it they were all educated. His fierce determination and labour harvesting greater opportunities for them all.
I am eternally grateful for his patience with me as we built this place and started our business, panicky and impatient. Stressed and exhausted, risking everything when we relocated. He was devoted to creating the garden I wanted, cherishing the opportunity to support his son and make a contribution in the best way he knew how. His hero's journey planting things.

Now our garden will become someone else's. Can't take it with us. Moving on.
Gardens grow no matter what. So must we. Greater, deeper, broader. Don't hold back on life. It's not meant for that.
